Industrial Robotics R&D Engineer - Next-Gen Aerospace Manufacturing

ONSITE IN BROUGHTON - 12 MONTHS - £47PH INSIDE IR35

Join a cutting-edge R&D team shaping the future of aerospace manufacturing through advanced robotics and automation. This is a chance to take your expertise in robotics, mechatronics, or controls engineering and apply it to some of the most technically ambitious projects in European aerospace.

You'll be part of a highly skilled group focused on inventing, designing, building, and validating new robotic systems that directly improve the way complex aircraft components are produced. From concept creation to prototype development, through to industrialisation and certification, your work will have a measurable impact on how next-generation aircraft are built.

The Role

As an Industrial Robotics R&D Engineer, you'll lead the design and integration of robotic and mechatronic solutions that push the limits of automation within aerospace production environments.

You will:

Develop and evaluate robotic concepts that solve real-world manufacturing challenges

Perform detailed simulations and analyses on loads, stresses, and manufacturability

Design 2D and 3D mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems using leading CAD tools

Create manufacturing drawings, BOMs, and technical documentation

Prototype, test, and validate robotic solutions to ensure they meet the highest standards of safety and reliability

Contribute to CE Mark certification and ensure compliance with internal and external quality standards

Provide hands-on technical expertise and mentor junior engineers in robotics and mechanical design best practices

About You

You're passionate about robotics and thrive on turning ideas into practical, working systems. You enjoy the blend of analytical and hands-on engineering, from simulations and modelling to physical prototyping and testing.

Essential experience:

MSc or PhD in Robotics, Mechatronics, Controls Engineering or related technical field

Strong practical experience with industrial robotics or actuated systems

Solid grounding in dynamics, kinematics, and system control

Proven success integrating robotic solutions in production environments

Familiarity with simulation tools such as RoboDK, DELMIA, Matlab/Simulink, or similar

Proficiency in CAD (CATIA, 3DX, or comparable platforms)

Skilled at building and testing prototypes with a hands-on approach

Excellent communication, collaboration, and analytical problem-solving skills

A proactive attitude and curiosity to experiment, iterate, and innovate are key. You'll be joining a team that values technical rigour, creativity, and impact
