Animal Care Tutor – SEND Provision
Location: Eckington base, with travel across Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, and South Yorkshire
Hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week (Monday to Friday), 52 weeks per year
Salary: £34,216 – £42,198 (dependent on experience)
Contract: Permanent or Secondment

We are recruiting on behalf of a specialist education provider for an experienced Animal Care Tutor to deliver engaging, hands-on sessions for learners with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). This is a unique opportunity to join a dynamic team focused on vocational learning and the development of independence through land-based education.

About the Role

The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high-quality Animal Care sessions as part of a broader vocational and personal development curriculum. This includes maintaining high standards of animal welfare, supporting learners to achieve their goals, and helping to manage the daily operation of a working farm within the college.

You’ll be based primarily near Eckington, but will be required to travel to additional sites and work in community-based settings. Use of a personal vehicle is essential, with travel costs reimbursed.

Key Responsibilities

Plan and deliver engaging Animal Care lessons and farm-based learning
Support the delivery of a “Farm to Fork” curriculum, including showing animals at local events
Ensure high standards of animal welfare and health & safety are upheld
Maintain DEFRA and regulatory documentation and compliance
Develop and support farm-based activities including breeding, care routines, and site upkeep
Collaborate with the Farm Manager and wider curriculum team to create a stimulating learning environment
Track learner progress, maintain accurate records, and report on outcomes
Act as a pastoral tutor, supporting learner wellbeing and development
Manage learner data and liaise professionally with families and carers
Lead and direct support staff in learning environments
Participate in quality assurance, staff training, and curriculum development

Person Specification

Essential:

Relevant vocational qualification in Animal Care or a related field
At least 2 years’ experience teaching or delivering training
Experience working with learners with SEND or additional needs
Strong organisational and communication skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a wider team
Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
Desirable:

A recognised teaching qualification (e.g. QTS, PGCE, Cert Ed, or FE equivalent)
Assessor qualification (e.g. TAQA)
Experience competing in agricultural or equestrian events
Experience of managing small projects or teams
First Aid certification
Maths and English at Level 2 (or willingness to work towards)
