We are seeking an experienced DT Teacher to join our esteemed grammar school in Reading. This is a fantastic opportunity for an educator with strong subject expertise and a passion for food technology to inspire high-achieving students. If you are looking to teach in a stimulating environment where academic excellence is a priority, we would love to hear from you.

About the School

Our grammar school has a long tradition of academic excellence, offering a rigorous and well-rounded education to a talented group of students. The Design and Technology Department is a key part of our curriculum, where students explore practical skills and develop critical thinking abilities across a wide range of subjects, including food technology. As an Experienced DT Teacher, you will play a vital role in ensuring that our students not only excel in food technology but also understand its impact on society, health, and the environment.

The Role

As an Experienced DT Teacher, you will be responsible for delivering engaging and intellectually stimulating lessons in food technology to students in Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4, and potentially Key Stage 5. Your role will include both theoretical instruction on nutrition, food science, and sustainability, as well as practical teaching to help students master cooking techniques and food preparation.

Key Responsibilities:

* Delivering High-Quality Lessons: Plan, deliver, and assess a range of lessons that challenge and inspire students, with a focus on practical skills such as cooking techniques, food safety, and nutrition.

* Curriculum Leadership: Collaborate with the department to continuously develop and refine the food technology curriculum, ensuring it aligns with the school’s academic standards and meets the needs of high-achieving students.

* Advanced Skills Development: Guide students through more advanced topics, such as the science of food, sustainable food systems, and the cultural impact of food. Encourage students to explore complex ideas and foster their independent learning.

* Assessment and Feedback: Monitor student progress, provide meaningful feedback, and implement strategies to support student success. Utilize data to inform teaching and improve outcomes.

* Student Engagement: Inspire students to develop a deep understanding of food technology, from practical cooking skills to the critical analysis of food-related issues, such as health and sustainability.

* Mentoring and Leadership: Take a leadership role in the department, mentoring less experienced staff and contributing to the professional development of your colleagues.

* Extra-Curricular Activities: Lead or contribute to extra-curricular initiatives such as cooking clubs, food-related events, and student competitions, enhancing the wider food culture within the school.

What We Are Looking For

We are seeking an experienced DT Teacher who can bring both subject expertise and leadership skills to our dynamic department.

You will have:

* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a degree in Food Technology, Home Economics, or a related field.

* Extensive experience teaching food technology at Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, with the ability to teach Key Stage 5 an advantage.

* In-depth knowledge of food technology, nutrition, culinary arts, and food sustainability.

* Leadership experience or a desire to take on leadership responsibilities within the department.

* The ability to differentiate lessons and engage students at all ability levels, ensuring each student reaches their full potential.

* Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate students to achieve their best.

* A commitment to academic excellence, with a passion for teaching and the development of young people.

Why Join Us?

* Academic Excellence: Join a school that sets high standards and provides a rich, challenging curriculum for students who are motivated and eager to learn.

* Collaborative Environment: Work in a highly supportive, collegial atmosphere with experienced colleagues who are committed to continuous professional development and shared best practices.
