Waste Awareness, Communications & Education Manager (Maternity Cover)

Salary – £31,235 - £39,044 per annum (plus benefits)
Hours – Full-time, Monday to Friday
Location – Buckinghamshire (Travel across the county required)

As a Waste Awareness, Communications & Education Manager at FCC Environment, you will play a pivotal role in raising public awareness around the waste hierarchy (waste prevention, reuse, recycling, composting) through engaging educational initiatives and communications. You’ll work closely with schools, community groups, and local authorities to promote sustainable waste practices and support operational performance through data-led insights.

This vacancy is for a full-time position, working five days per week.

What will you be doing?

- Developing and delivering waste education and communication initiatives across Buckinghamshire
- Creating curriculum-based resources linked to Household Recycling Centres (HRCs)
- Organising school visits, presentations, and community engagement programmes
- Liaising with Buckinghamshire Council, local schools, and community groups
- Promoting recycling and sustainability through events, campaigns, and social media
- Producing reports and newsletters analysing recycling data and highlighting performance improvements
- Attending conferences and public events to represent the contract
- Creating and maintaining content for communication platforms

What are we looking for?

- At least 2 years of experience in environmental/waste management or education
- Strong communication skills and confidence engaging with school-age children
- Data analysis experience and proficiency with Microsoft Excel
- A passion for sustainability and community engagement
- A degree or equivalent in environmental sciences, teaching, or related subject
- A full UK driving licence (essential for county-wide travel)
- Willingness to undertake a DBS check
