Machine Tool PDI Engineer

Location: Coventry

Salary: £40,000 – £50,000

Job Type: Permanent

Hours: Monday – Thursday: 8:30am–5:00pm | Friday: 8:30am–3:00pm

A respected and long-standing name in the CNC machine tool sector is looking to expand its Coventry-based team with a PDI Engineer. This workshop-based role is ideal for an experienced Field Service Engineer who wants to step away from life on the road but continue working hands-on with advanced CNC technology.

The Role

Working from a modern technology centre, you’ll carry out pre-delivery inspections, mechanical/electrical installations, and system integration on a wide range of CNC machines. This includes preparing machines for automation and multi-axis setups, supporting internal teams, and helping ensure machines are fully functional and customer-ready before dispatch.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct pre-delivery inspections to internal and customer specifications

Install and mechanically/electrically interface machines with auxiliary equipment

Prepare machines for 4th/5th axis and automation integration

Develop standard operating procedures and contribute to technical documentation

Support colleagues with technical issues both in person and remotely

Work cross-functionally to resolve problems and uphold quality standards

Maintain a clean, safe, and organised working environment

Required Experience & Skills

HNC in Engineering and/or completion of a Modern Apprenticeship (or equivalent)

Strong technical understanding of CNC machine tools

Confident reading mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics

Skilled in diagnosing faults across mechanical, electrical, and control systems

Experience with at least one major control system: Fanuc, Siemens, or Heidenhain

Comfortable using IT systems (email, PC, mobile)

Based within a commutable distance of Coventry

Desirable Skills

Experience with all three major CNC control systems

PLC integration and modification experience

Broader system integration knowledge
