Head of Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) – Inspire Global Learning

Are you a skilled and passionate MFL teacher with the ambition to lead? We are seeking an exceptional Head of Modern Foreign Languages to join our secondary school and drive forward a dynamic, high-achieving department that inspires students to explore and engage with global cultures through language.

Position: Head of Modern Foreign Languages (MFL)
Location: Braintree
Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent
Start Date: September 2025
Salary: £40,000 – £60,000 (depending on experience)

About the Role:
You will lead and develop our MFL department, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning in languages such as French and Spanish (or others offered at the school). You will inspire a love of languages, raise attainment, and equip students with the linguistic and cultural skills they need in an interconnected world.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead the MFL department across all key stages
Design and implement an engaging and progressive MFL curriculum
Support and develop a team of dedicated language teachers
Track student progress and drive strategies to raise achievement
Promote international awareness and cultural enrichment across the school
Contribute to wider school leadership and improvement initiatives

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and strong subject knowledge in at least one language (French, Spanish, or other)
Successful experience teaching MFL across KS3–KS4 (KS5 desirable)
Proven leadership experience or clear leadership potential
A creative and strategic approach to curriculum and departmental development
The ability to inspire both students and staff
A passion for languages and cultural education
