Job Description:
We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer (Contract) to support an upcoming project scheduled to begin on 28th July 2025. This is a fantastic opportunity to join an internationally respected engineering team on a 3 to 6-month contract based in Gateshead.

As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer (Contract), you will be instrumental in delivering 3D modelling and mechanical design work using Autodesk Inventor. You will play a key role in validating and optimising component designs, supporting prototype development, and ensuring high manufacturing standards across a range of applications.

The successful Senior Mechanical Design Engineer (Contract) will be responsible for performing detailed hand calculations, using simulation tools such as ANSYS Mechanical and MATLAB, and applying robust engineering principles including DFMEA and PFMEA.

This role is ideal for a motivated Senior Mechanical Design Engineer (Contract) who thrives in a project-based environment and brings strong analytical and design development experience to the team.

Skills & Experience:

Essential:

* Proficient in Autodesk Inventor for 3D modelling and assembly creation.

* Strong mechanical design background with experience in prototype development.

* Competent in performing hand calculations and using tools such as ANSYS Mechanical and MATLAB.

* Experienced in DFMEA and PFMEA analysis.

Desirable:

* Experience with advanced ANSYS tools (structural, thermal, modal) and CFD.

* Knowledge of high-volume manufacturing processes (e.g. injection moulding, casting, forging).
