Location - Office (Henley-on-Thames), Projects in the South East of the UK, and working from home.

The Role:
As Head of Estimating & Commercial, you will be a key member of the senior management team, responsible for overseeing the commercial success of a diverse portfolio of stonework projects. You will lead all commercial functions across multiple live projects (typically up to £2.5M in individual value), supporting a turnover responsibility of approximately £2M–£5M annually.
Working closely with Project Managers, Quantity Surveyors, Procurement, and Finance, your role will focus on the commercial planning, financial control, contract management, and strategic oversight of the company’s operations—ensuring risk is minimised and profitability is maximised.
You will contribute to business planning and forecasting, while also engaging with clients, consultants, and suppliers to ensure seamless contract negotiation and management throughout the full project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities:

* Full commercial oversight of multiple concurrent projects

* Strategic financial planning and cost control

* Contract negotiation, administration, and compliance (JCT, NEC, bespoke contracts etc.)

* Monthly reporting on project performance and forecasting

* Managing commercial risk and opportunity

* Variation and change control, in collaboration with QS and Project Managers

* Ensuring alignment between procurement, delivery, and finance

* Support in bid/tender submissions and commercial input into pre-construction

* Collaborating closely with the leadership team on business strategy

Person Profile / Skills:

* Proven experience as a Commercial Manager, Senior Estimator, or Senior QS within the construction or specialist subcontractor sectors (experience in stonemasonry or heritage projects is advantageous)

* Excellent knowledge of construction contracts and contract law

* Experience managing commercial aspects of multiple concurrent projects (£50k – £2.5M+)

* Financial acumen and strong commercial awareness

* High attention to detail with excellent reporting and planning skills

* Ability to communicate clearly with internal teams, clients, and stakeholders

* Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and commercial/project management tools

* Professional qualifications such as RICS, MCIOB or NVQ (desirable but not essential)

Other Details / Benefits:

* Salary in the region of £60k – £85k (commensurate with experience)

* Annual bonus based on personal and company performance

* Opportunity to progress to Commercial Director level (with share options / equity potential after 2 years of success)
