Location: Oldbury
Contract: Temporary, Full-Time 

Working hours: 8.30am-3.30pm

Start Date: September 2025

End Date: July 2026

Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

About the Role:
TeacherActive is looking for a compassionate and experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a child in KS1 with autism at a warm and supportive primary school in Oldbury. This role is ideal for someone who is patient, nurturing, and passionate about helping young children with additional needs thrive in a mainstream school setting.

This full-time position is to cover maternity leave and will run from September 2025 to July 2026, with potential for extension depending on school requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide tailored 1:1 support for a child in Reception with autism, helping them access learning and engage in daily classroom activities.

Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to implement individual education plans (IEPs).

Use a range of strategies to support communication, social interaction, and emotional regulation.

Support transitions and routines throughout the school day.

Build a trusting and supportive relationship with the child and their family.

Monitor and report on progress and development to relevant staff.

Person Specification:
We are looking for someone who:

Has previous experience working with children with autism or other special educational needs, ideally in a Primary setting.

Demonstrates a calm, empathetic, and flexible approach to supporting individual needs.

Has a relevant qualification in childcare, education, or support work (e.g., Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant or equivalent).

Works well as part of a team and communicates effectively with staff, parents, and professionals.

Is committed to safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of all pupils.
