English Teacher (SEMH Specialist)

About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced English Teacher to join a specialist SEMH provision. You'll play a key role in delivering engaging and accessible lessons tailored to meet the social, emotional and mental health needs of the students. This is a full-time, paid-to-scale role, with a strong likelihood of extension for the full academic year.

Key Responsibilities

Plan and deliver high‑quality English lessons (KS3-KS4 and Functional Skills/GCSE as applicable) tailored for SEMH learners.

Create a structured, positive classroom environment using effective behaviour-management strategies.

Develop and review individual learning and behaviour plans in collaboration with SENCOs and support staff.

Monitor student progress, deliver constructive feedback, and adapt teaching to meet individual needs.

Build strong relationships with students, staff, parents and external professionals to support holistic development.

Participate in safeguarding practices, staff meetings, CPD activities, and contribute to the school ethos.

Essential Qualifications & Experience

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.

Experience teaching in an SEMH, SEND, or alternative provision setting.

Strong understanding of the English curriculum and strategies for differentiation and behaviour support.

Enhanced DBS and legal right to work in the UK.

Desirable Attributes

Experience delivering GCSE or Functional Skills English.

Training in trauma-informed practice and positive behaviour interventions.

Excellent communication skills with the ability to build trust with SEMH learners.

Patience, resilience, empathy, and flexibility in responding to varied needs.
