We have opportunities available for Support Workers to join us based in Moseley, Birmingham. You will join us on a full time, permanent basis and in return, we are offering a competitive rate of £8.50 per hour.

Servol Community Services is a Charity providing care and support to adults affected by and recovering from mental health problems. Support is provided to people in accommodation that meets their support needs. These include residential 24 hour staffed services, semi supported accommodation and supporting individuals living in their own homes in the community.

As our Support Worker, you will be required to provide a range of one to one support to service users and help them to develop the skills and support networks to enable them to live independently in the community.

Additional key duties and responsibilities include:

- Work with colleagues to provide the best quality of care to service users, upholding dignity and ensuring that the support provided is safe, effective and caring.

- Work as part of a team to ensure consistent support to service users as part of care plans. Keeping accurate records and supporting service users in their dealings with external agencies as required.

- Work flexibly as part of the staff rota to provide the required staffing levels.

- Encourage service users to contribute fully to their care and support plan by making informed choices.

- Support service users with form filling and making benefit claims as necessary. 

- Encourage and support service users to take part in day time activities of interest to them including education and voluntary activities.

- Encourage and support those service users who are seeking employment to find a suitable post.

- Liaise with external agencies (such as CPNs, Social Workers, Community Mental Health Teams etc.) in relation to service users.

- Assist and support service-users with activities such as shopping and attending appointments.

- Prompting or administering medication to agreed standards and in line with policy and procedure, reporting any issues as outlined in policy to senior staff.

- Comply with Health and Safety policy taking responsibility for own and others health and safety, reporting any concerns and notifying the manager of the service of any maintenance issues or repairs that are needed.

- Where required, support clients living in their own homes to provide the same range of support as that provided to service users of the residential unit, and to ensure a safe and effective service, providing support in line with the care plan.

Skills and experience required to become our Support Worker:

- NVQ/QCF Level 2 in Health and Social Care or equivalent; must be working towards Level 3 qualification.

- Experience of working with people in a support or care role

- Care planning and/or Key working

- Supporting clients with medication

- Experience of working in Residential or day services

- Good written and verbal skills to convey information clearly

- A working understanding of procedures for the protection of vulnerable adults

- A working knowledge of Health and Safety and risk management issues and application in social care

- Understanding of equality and diversity and ability to promote equality in all aspects of work

- Positive, non-judgemental attitude to working with people experiencing mental health problems

- Driver with access to own transport for work purposes

- Must be able to work flexibly as part of a rota
