Field Service Engineer – Control Systems
Location: Midlands (with travel to customer sites)
Salary: £42,000 DOE
OTE: ~£55,000+
Benefits: 23 days holiday + bank holidays, workplace pension, time off in lieu for weekend work
Training Available: In-house and supplier-led training on control systems, PLCs, and new technologies
Shifts Available: Standard 37.5-hour week with flexibility for overtime and occasional weekend/overnight work

Overview of the Field Service Engineer Role:

As a Field Service Engineer, you will be responsible for the installation, wiring, and commissioning of control systems across a variety of industrial environments. You’ll work both in the workshop and on-site, supporting the deployment of advanced automation systems and ensuring high-quality electrical installations.

Key Responsibilities:

Install control panels, cable containment, 24V DC and mains wiring, motors, sensors, and I/O nodes
Terminate field cables and wire control panels to CAD specifications
Travel to customer sites for installation and commissioning phases
Support integration of PLCs, CNCs, servo drives, and inverters
Collaborate closely with in-house electrical designers
Perform I/O testing and Fieldbus checks (desirable)

Candidate Requirements:

Minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar role
Strong understanding of electrical systems and safety regulations
Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings
Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
Willingness to travel, work weekends, and stay overnight when required
Desirable: PLC experience for I/O and Fieldbus testing
