Electrical Commissioning Engineer – Mission-Critical Project – Newport, UK

A major UK-based contractor delivering high-tech infrastructure and data centre projects across Europe is seeking a locally based Electrical Commissioning Engineer to join its delivery team on a large-scale critical infrastructure build in Newport.

This full-time, site-based position is suited to an experienced commissioning professional with strong electrical bias, a background in mission-critical or data centre environments, and a deep understanding of complex LV/MV systems, UPS installations, and electrical testing protocols.

Key Responsibilities:

* Manage and execute electrical commissioning activities in accordance with the project schedule and compliance standards.

* Interface directly with vendors, subcontractors, and QA/QC personnel to ensure that systems are tested and validated correctly.

* Track commissioning progress against key milestones, raising issues early and ensuring deliverables are on time.

* Witness factory and field acceptance tests (FATs/FWTs), ensuring full documentation and traceability.

* Review commissioning documentation, sign-off procedures, and test packs in collaboration with Approved Person teams.

* Conduct hands-on verification and inspections of UPS systems, switchgear, distribution boards, and controls.

* Support technical meetings, documentation flow, and commissioning walkdowns.

* Promote and enforce all safety protocols and quality standards on site.

Candidate Profile:

* Electrically qualified – Degree, Building Services qualification, or certified electrical trade background.

* Minimum 3 years’ experience commissioning electrical systems on industrial or data centre projects.

* Strong knowledge of low and medium voltage systems, UPS, BMS integration, and electrical testing procedures.

* Familiar with critical infrastructure commissioning workflows, FAT/FWT documentation, and snag management.

* Experience in data centres or similar mission-critical environments is essential.

* Must be based near Newport – no accommodation, transport, or rotation package is available.

* Excellent communication skills and a proactive, quality-driven mindset.
