Job Title: Estimator
Location: Hitchin, Hertfordshire
Salary: £55,000 – £65,000 per annum, plus car allowance and benefits

Position Overview:

4Site Recruitment are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Estimator to join our Client's team who are based in Hitchin, Hertfordshire. This role is ideal for professionals with a strong background in main contracting, particularly those who have estimated projects within the healthcare, public sector and education sectors, with values up to £15 million.

Key Responsibilities:

*

Review and analyse project specifications, drawings and other documentation to prepare accurate cost estimates.

*

Conduct site visits to assess project requirements and gather necessary information for estimating purposes.

*

Solicit and evaluate quotes from suppliers and subcontractors to ensure competitive pricing and quality.

*

Develop detailed cost breakdowns, including materials, labour, equipment and subcontractor services.

*

Identify and assess potential risks and uncertainties associated with the project, providing recommendations for mitigation.

*

Collaborate with project managers, architects and other stakeholders to ensure estimates align with project objectives and constraints.

*

Prepare and present bid proposals, ensuring they are comprehensive and submitted within specified deadlines.

*

Maintain and update a database of cost information, industry standards and historical data for future reference.

*

Monitor project costs during the construction phase to identify and address any variances from the original estimate.

*

Assist in value engineering and cost control initiatives to optimise project budgets and resource allocation.

Essential Qualifications and Experience:

*

Proven experience as an Estimator within a main contracting environment, with a focus on healthcare, public sector or education projects.

*

Demonstrated ability to estimate projects up to £15 million in value.

*

Strong analytical and mathematical skills, with a keen eye for detail.

*

Proficiency in interpreting architectural and engineering drawings, specifications and contracts.

*

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders.

*

Proficiency in using construction estimating software and tools.

*

Ability to prioritise tasks, meet deadlines and work under pressure.

*

A valid driver's licence and reliable transportation.

Desirable Attributes:

*

Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or a related field.

*

Membership with a recognised professional body (e.g., RICS, CIOB).

*

Familiarity with UK construction industry standards and regulations.

*

Experience with JCT and NEC forms of contract.
