Mechanical Technician

* Short term contract for 6 weeks

* Possible scope for extension. Multiple positions available.

* Flexible rate of pay according to expectations.

The Mechanical Technician will play a key role in the build and assembly of, primarily, bespoke automation and production equipment. This role involves interpreting detailed engineering drawings and working to tight tolerances to assemble mechanical components, sub-assemblies, and complete systems.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical fitting or precision assembly and experience working with complex machinery in a regulated, high-quality environment.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

* Assemble mechanical components and machinery to engineering drawings and specifications.

* Conduct incoming surface finish inspections and measurement of components and rectify where necessary.

* Use a range of hand tools, power tools, and measurement equipment to complete builds accurately and safely.

* Use machine tools, e.g., lathes, milling machines etc. to modify or manufacture components.

* Liaise with design and engineering teams to resolve build issues and feedback improvements.

* Carry out mechanical system testing, alignments, and functional checks.

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

* Proven experience in mechanical fitting or machine assembly, ideally in automation, special-purpose machinery, or a similar environment.

* Ability to read and interpret detailed engineering drawings, BOMs, and pneumatic schematics.

* Skilled in the use of tools, jigs, fixtures, and measuring equipment.

* Fully competent in the use of machine tools, e.g., lathes, milling machines etc.

* Excellent attention to detail and a methodical, process-driven approach.

Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

* Experience supporting mechanical commissioning or site-based machinery installation.

* Have a continuous improvement mindset.

* Proficiency in the use of Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.

* An appreciation of electrical, PLC and robotic equipment

Qualifications and Education Requirements

* Time-served mechanical apprenticeship or equivalent vocational qualification.

* Additional training in mechanical assembly, pneumatics, or machine tool operation is advantageous.
