Product Development Engineer in Dorset

Kingston Barnes has an exciting opportunity for a Product Development Engineer for our client in Dorset. Full training and development in company and manufacturing systems with excellent starting salary.

The Role

* The objective of this role is to develop and test new products from prototypes to final products.

* Manage the day-to-day activities within the development team, guiding and teaching development technicians ensuring that a good standard of work is produced.

* Work on allocated Proof of Concept projects from concept to production / operational handover, contribute to design and assembly reviews.

* Conduct tests on products to identify and mitigate risk of hazards and or product failure.

* Reporting and updating test results in a formal written report.

* Supporting the development of new test methods

* Comfortable working with hand tools and light machinery to modify or create prototype parts for assembly.

* Input in recommendations and technical decisions including choice of devices, cables, and power supplies, ensuring that the technical details are captured and recorded

* Read and understand manufacturing drawings, cable schematics, device specifications.

* Support design in the integration of devices and cabling and provide ongoing advice and support to help mature the solutions into production

* Effective communication between organisations and functions to be maintained

* Carry out process validation and performance testing and input improvement ideas. Provide technical support to production departments when necessary

* Capture component additions and changes to refine the Bill of Materials

* Act with integrity, competence and respect towards colleagues and customers

* Conform to ISO 9001:2015 requirements and other customer specific regulatory requirements on all projects and processes

* To create and support the design and manufacture of product prototypes parts, assemblies, tooling, fixtures and jigs for new product assembly, including ‘end of line’ testing.

* Maintaining and supporting tooling dedicated to securing production processes.

* To create and support where required best practice procedures and work instructions for product assembly and testing.

* Support project champions\lead engineers in the development of POC models, product development models and assemblies and where required pre-production batches.

* To assist in the qualification and documentation of product prototypes, related tooling, including process controls with post design.

* Support the procurement of materials for prototyping and testing

* Support transition from engineering to production, of new products within specified cost, schedule, and process requirements, ensuring the manufacturability of new products.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience:

* Product Development background

* Understanding of assembly manufacturing

* Assembly, pre-production test experience

* Understanding of Plastics and/or metals ideal

* Mechanical Engineer qualification, ideally HNC and above
