Head of English – Independent School – Hampshire – September 2025 Start

Are you an experienced English teacher ready to take the next step into leadership? We are supporting a well-regarded independent secondary school in Hampshire in their search for a full-time Head of English to start in Autumn 2025.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a passionate and dynamic English specialist to lead a growing department and play a key role in shaping the English curriculum for students aged 11 to 18.

The Role:

As Head of English, you will:

Lead the English department with strategic vision and subject expertise
Teach across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5 (GCSE and A-Level English)
Deliver high-quality lessons that inspire and challenge all learners
Foster a love of English through creative planning, engaging content and enrichment activities
Monitor progress using data to inform teaching and drive improvement
Support and develop teaching colleagues within the department
Champion inclusive education – experience working with SEND pupils is essential

What We’re Looking For:

QTS and a degree in English or a related subject
Strong track record of success teaching English at KS3–KS5
Experience of working with students with Special Educational Needs (SEND)
Inspirational leadership and curriculum planning skills
A collaborative approach and high expectations for all students
A desire to contribute to whole-school development and extra-curricular life

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
