Lead Engineer – CAD/CAM
Location: Mansfield
Salary: £45,000 - £50,000 per annum (depending on experience)
Hours: Days - Monday to Friday

EMBS Engineering is currently representing one of our longstanding clients who is a market leader in manufacturing precision components for the aerospace industry, supplying world-renowned, global customers.

Located at their North Nottinghamshire site, our client is in the market for a Lead Engineer, supporting the CAD CAM Programmers, reporting directly to the Engineering Manager.

The Opportunity:

Reporting directly to the Engineering Manager, you’ll oversee the day-to-day workload, prioritise engineering tasks, and ensure the team deliver projects to the highest standards of quality, accuracy, and efficiency.

This role is not hands-on programming, but rather focused on technical leadership, planning, and coordination, ensuring the engineering team has the guidance, resources, and support they need to perform effectively.

You’ll also present weekly updates to the senior leadership team, highlighting progress, challenges, and opportunities for improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

* Manage, lead, and motivate a team of eight engineers within a high-performing CADCAM environment

* Oversee daily workload allocation, prioritising ticket requests and delegating tasks effectively

* Provide technical direction, advice, and training to the team, supporting weaker members and sharing best practice

* Review methods, optimise programs, and identify process improvements to increase efficiency and output quality

* Develop and maintain resource plans to ensure deadlines are achieved

* Lead the creation and enforcement of CAD/CAM standards and best practices (data management, part modelling, NC programming, tooling design, etc.)

* Support continuous improvement initiatives, cost-reduction projects, and system optimisation

* Report weekly progress and performance updates to senior management

* Support the introduction and use of CADCAM and ERP systems across the business

Successful applicants MUST be able to demonstrate:

* Proven experience managing or leading an engineering team within a manufacturing environment (aerospace preferred)

* Strong technical background in machining and CADCAM (milling bias advantageous)

* Experienced with CAD systems such as Catia V5, Siemens NX, or equivalent (training available where required)

* Knowledge of EdgeCAM for mill-turn applications is desirable

* Excellent organisational and project management skills

* Confident communicator with strong people leadership and mentoring ability

* Proactive problem solver, able to prioritise effectively in a fast-paced environment
