Income Officer – Permanent, Full Time

Location: Shropshire
Salary: £28,624 - £30,060 + Local Government Pension Scheme
Hours: 37 hours per week

Are you passionate about helping people sustain their tenancies while ensuring income recovery is managed effectively? We’re looking for a proactive and customer-focused Income Officer to join a busy housing team in Shropshire.

🏡 About the Role

As an Income Officer, you’ll play a key part in supporting residents to maintain their tenancies and managing rent and other neighbourhood-related income streams. You’ll build strong relationships with tenants, provide practical support, and work with partners to maximise income recovery while ensuring a fair and supportive approach.

This is a varied, front-line role where no two days are the same — from negotiating payment plans and giving benefit advice to preparing court documentation and making a real difference in people’s lives.

💼 Key Responsibilities

* Manage a designated caseload of rent and other neighbourhood-related debt

* Proactively engage with tenants to prevent arrears and income loss

* Negotiate and agree payment plans, offering clear and empathetic advice

* Support vulnerable tenants by signposting to appropriate services

* Prepare and deliver legal notices, attend court when necessary

* Work closely with colleagues, partners, and external agencies to resolve issues

* Keep accurate records and contribute to performance targets

🧑‍🤝‍🧑 About You

We’re looking for someone who is:

* A confident communicator with a customer-first approach

* Skilled in negotiation and able to manage sensitive conversations

* Organised and able to manage a busy and varied workload

* Knowledgeable (or willing to learn) about welfare reform, benefits, and income recovery processes

* Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team

📋 What’s on Offer

* Competitive salary

* 28 days annual leave, rising to 33 after 5 years

* Local Government Pension Scheme

* Flexible working and mileage reimbursement

* Opportunities for training and professional development

* The chance to make a meaningful difference in your community

⚠️ Additional Information

* A valid driving licence and access to a vehicle are required

* This role involves lone working and occasional evening work

* Appointment is subject to satisfactory references, medical clearance, and a DBS check
