Sheet Metal Operative – Fabrication & Welding

Actio Recruitment is working in partnership with a respected engineering firm in the Dorking area to appoint a skilled and proactive Sheet Metal Operative with expertise in fabrication and welding.

Location: Dorking
Hours: Monday to Thursday, 07:00–15:30; Friday, 07:00–12:00 (30-minute paid lunch)
Contract: Permanent
Pay: Competitive, based on experience plus benefits package

Role Overview:

Reporting to the Team Leader, you’ll be responsible for the fabrication and welding of sheet metal components to precise specifications, maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and productivity. This is a hands-on role suited to a detail-oriented professional who thrives in a fast-paced, small-team environment.

Key Duties:

*

TIG welding of stainless steel and aluminium

*

MIG welding of mild steel fabrications

*

Spot welding and part finishing (grinding, polishing)

*

Operating guillotines, press brakes, box folders, rolling equipment

*

Drilling, tapping, and inserting PEMS

*

Reading and interpreting engineering drawings

*

Producing components to tight tolerances and quality standards

*

Maintaining machinery, tooling, and housekeeping to 5S standards

*

Supporting continuous improvement and problem-solving initiatives

*

Flexibly assisting other departments as required

Candidate Profile:

*

Proven experience in sheet metal fabrication and welding

*

Strong understanding of production processes and safety protocols

*

Skilled in using measuring equipment and interpreting technical drawings

*

Organised, self-motivated, and able to work independently

*

Positive attitude with a willingness to learn and adapt

*

Experience with lean tools and 5S methodology is advantageous
