Description

Job Purpose

To plan, deliver and assess high-quality Psychology lessons that engage and inspire students, fostering their understanding of the subject and helping them achieve their academic potential at KS4 and KS5.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching & Learning

*

Plan, prepare and deliver engaging lessons in Psychology in line with the school’s curriculum and exam board specifications.

*

Teach GCSE and/or A-Level Psychology (or equivalent qualifications), adapting materials to meet the needs of all learners.

*

Set, mark and assess work to ensure students make progress and achieve their targets.

*

Use data to track and monitor student progress, identifying underachievement and implementing interventions.

*

Maintain up-to-date subject knowledge and pedagogy.

Classroom Management & Behaviour

*

Establish a safe, stimulating and well-managed learning environment.

*

Promote positive behaviour and high expectations in line with school policies.

*

Contribute to whole-school behaviour and safeguarding procedures.

Curriculum & Department Contribution

*

Contribute to the development and review of schemes of work and assessments.

*

Support and participate in departmental meetings, planning and moderation activities.

*

Organise and/or assist with enrichment activities, trips or clubs related to Psychology or social sciences.

Professional Responsibilities

*

Engage in professional development to enhance teaching practice.

*

Communicate effectively with students, parents/carers and colleagues.

*

Carry out duties and responsibilities as required (e.g. cover, break duties).

*

Support the school’s ethos, values and safeguarding policies.

Person Specification

Essential:

*

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.

*

Degree in Psychology or a related subject.

*

Experience of teaching Psychology at KS4 and/or KS5.

*

Strong subject knowledge and passion for Psychology.

*

Ability to differentiate and support a wide range of learners.

*

Excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal skills.

Desirable:

*

Experience of teaching other Social Science subjects (e.g. Sociology).

*

Familiarity with multiple exam boards or curriculum models.

*

Evidence of raising attainment in previous roles.
