Job Title: Interim Head of Community Safety
Location: South of England
Rate: Up to £500 a day
Duration: 4-6 months estimated
Inside IR35

A well respected Local Authority has a requirement for an Interim Head of Community Safety to provide operational and strategic direction to large team of staff and develop and deliver key projects within community partnerships, based in South of England for a 4-6 month contract (in the first instance).

This is an excellent opportunity for a proven leader who is passionate about supporting communities and promoting community resilience.

Your duties as Interim Head of Community Safety will include:

Reporting to the Director Service you will work corporately and be responsible for coordinating the Council's directive to Community Safety and application of enforcement actions as required.

• Part of the Leadership team of 3 and managing 5 Direct reports and the wider team of 30 staff
• Review the restructure of the department, lead on staff consultation process and help shape the roles and deliverables of service going forward
• Involved in recruitment and re-organisation of staff team
• Motivating the team, get involved with team meetings and service briefings, bring the team in more
• Attend community boards and be heavily involved in member inductions post-election, promoting all partnership working within the directorate
• Conduct service review and establish operations tactical arm (dealing with ASB, police operations and escalated cases) as well as the partnership arm
• Help develop the service plan for the next 2 years and establish key focus areas
• Producing reports, writing and delivering the strategy to all stakeholders including cabinet members and the corporate management team
• Act as the single point of contact to police areas and LPA Commanders for any major incidents and for partnership working
• Responsible for budgets for around £3million and fulfil all grant commitments (successful completion of statutory returns etc.)

Your experience as Interim Head of Community Safety will have covered:

• Prior experience of operating at Head of Service level and managing large teams
• Demonstrably strong experience of working within community safety
• Experience of ASB areas of work, from lower level through to community triggers, community penalty notices and by laws
• Ability to employ a thorough understanding of ASB and enforcement actions
• Understanding and experience of Chairing Channels
• Strong experience of running community partnerships
• Experience of partnership working with the police including the ability to effectively support any police operations as required
• Experience of developing a team, supporting and motivating a team
• Experience of dealing with political members, Partners
• Experience of service development, re-organisation and change management

• Someone who has embraced the voluntary and business sector in embracing community safety
• Someone who has led or spoken/presented at events and forums and who has led campaigns around Domestic Abuse, Domestic violence and modern slavery
