We have a fantastic opportunity for a Healthcare Assistant to join the team at HMP Wakefield, a Category A male prison in Wakefield, West Yorkshire.
This is a crucial role within the healthcare team, making a real difference to patients, and delivering outstanding care. This role offers excellent developmental opportunities and is a great environment to build on your experience and gain new skills!
This role sits within our Inpatients Unit, which has capacity of 14, and involves physical care, social care, end of life care, palliative care etc. 
 
Hours:
 
This is a full time role, 37.5 hours per week, working a variety of shifts between Monday and Sunday.
Shifts are 12 hours, and are:
7am - 7:15pm / 7pm - 7:15am
The role involves nights, weekends and bank holidays on a rota basis - working around 2 weekends per month
 
Salary:

This position is full time , you’ll receive an annual salary of up to £28,690 per annum - depending on experience.

What you'll be doing
As our new Healthcare Assistant, your responsibilities will vary. Some of your duties will include:
Work within the Inpatients Unit, looking after patients who are too unwell to be on the wings, including mental health patients
Deliver various types of care across the unit - social care, end of life, palliative, personal care etc
Respond to emergency situations as required when working nights
Support with PEG feeds, dressings, bloods, ECGs etc
Carry out risk assessments and care planning
Act as a second checker in pharmacy as required
You will support the registered nurse in association with the patient and in accordance with instructions and training received whilst promoting safe patient care and be willing to develop and apply new skills to maintain and enhance clinical service deliveryIf you are interested in career development, we have a wide range of opportunities for you to develop your skills and experience, which include both internal and external options for development and learning.

Our new Healthcare Assistant will:
Ideally hold an NVQ Level 2/3 in Health & Social Care - this is not essential
Have care experience, whether from a hospital, secure setting or a care home
Any clinical knowledge (bloods, ECGs etc) would be a bonus
