Shift Maintenance Engineer


c£40k (increases to c£42k after probationary period) + 30 days holiday + generous pension Scheme + bonus + exceptional benefits package

Our client has been established for almost half a century and are market leaders in the design and manufacture of molding and sealing solutions for clients globally. As a result of continued success and an ongoing programme of strategic growth, they are now seeking to recruit an experienced and enthusiastic Multi skilled (ideally electrically biased) shift maintenance engineer to complement their dynamic and professional team.

Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor and based out of a prestigious head office building in Blackburn, the successful candidate will work as part of a team on a rotating 3 shift pattern (6am to 2pm, 2pm to 10pm and 10pm to 6am) undertaking both PPM and reactive breakdown maintenance and repair activities on a range of plant equipment and facilities in order to ensure production downtime is minimised and manufacturing targets achieved as well as identifying any causes of reductions in output or yield losses.

Tasked with responding immediately to equipment failures during your shift raised by the production team, you will use manuals and failure history to conduct accurate and timely fault diagnosis before determining effective solutions and repairing the equipment, then recording the nature of the fault to avoid future occurrences, highlighting any concerns and proposing technical solutions to ensure the avoidance of repeat failures and breakdowns.

As a maintenance engineer you will also be responsible for the completion of shift reports and work orders with concise and accurate information in order to aid other members of the Maintenance Team and help to identify re-occurring issues in the future, and will undertake PPM tasks as scheduled during the shift to the required standard, using your experience to provide suggestions for changes to PM schedules/tasks in order to improve overall equipment safety and reliability, and conduct machine and facility checks to identify potential failure or deterioration.

Other duties will include (but not be limited to) conducting machine and facility observations during the shift, identifying potential safety risks and taking necessary actions to remove the hazard, undertaking risk assessments prior to any maintenance work and ensuring conclusions are implemented prior to start of work to remove hazards, and ensuring equipment is handed back to production in a 100% safe condition. You will also assist with the closure of safety actions identified via audits, accident / incident investigation or legal compliance and book out inventory items used on jobs, perform stock checks and report stock concerns or part requirements to Maintenance Supervisor as required.

To be considered for this varied and challenging maintenance engineer role it is envisaged that the successful candidate will be qualified to at least HNC level or above in a relevant engineering discipline and have successfully completed a time served engineering apprenticeship, will ideally be 18th Edition certificated and able to demonstrate at least 3 years previous experience of working in a multi skilled maintenance role in a busy manufacturing environment. Able to work autonomously and as part of a team, you will demonstrate a methodical approach to problem solving and possess a good understanding of PLC's with the ability to read electrical schematic drawings.

Experience of a wide range of motors, inverters, servo's and DC drives as well as power circuits at 415V AC and control circuits at 24V DC and a solid understanding of hydraulics and pneumatics are also required for the position.
