MISSION INTEGRATION PROJECT ENGINEER, VEHICLE ENGINEERING The National Security Space Launch (NSSL) Team at SpaceX is charged with leading the successful execution of our partnership and contractual agreements with the US Government to successfully launch national security missions. This close-knit group serves as the main interface between the relevant Space Force customers and internal company-wide SpaceX teams. The NSSL Team is also responsible for maintaining certification of the Falcon family of launch vehicles, providing fleet insight to our government customers, and successfully integrating and safely delivering Government payloads to orbit. Our work enables SpaceX to be the premier domestic provider of National Security Space missions. On this team, you will serve as the main interface between the SpaceX technical teams and our external stakeholders. You will ensure SpaceXs designs, test plans and qualification campaigns result in mature launch systems in which our Government customer can place utmost confidence to launch their most sensitive, complex and critical payloads. Initially, this position will focus primarily on fluid systems, pressure vessels, valves and other mechanical and electro-mechanical components supporting propulsion. You will also be tasked with ensuring compliance of challenging mission-specific requirements and providing an overall positive customer experience. RESPONSIBILITIES: - Plan and execute launch vehicle (Falcon 9, Falcon Heavy) certification and fleet insight tasks for U.S. government agencies (Air Force, Space Force, NASA Launch Services, National Reconnaissance Office), including but not limited to: - Collaborate with SpaceX technical departments to prepare design, analysis, and test data packages and briefings for government representatives - Identify, develop handling plans, and drive to closure technical issues with designs, analysis or tests that would impact customer requirements - Work closely with SpaceX technical departments to develop technical rationales, mitigate technical risks, and ensure product deliveries are on schedule - Organize and lead program milestone reviews, technical interchange meetings, and regular working group meetings - Negotiate, develop, and ensure timely delivery of technical products and customer data requests - Coordinate certification tasks and requirements with technical teams so that they can plan their tasks appropriately to meet customer expectations and maintain schedule - Maintain configuration control of the certified flight configuration. Coordinate and gain approval from the government on engineering changes to that baseline - Coordinate across technical disciplines to solve customer technical challenges with limited resources - Ensure that contract deliverables are delivered on time and per the customers expectation, including taking responsibility for payment milestones - Generate Interface Control Documents for all external vehicle interfaces and each payload and work with SpaceX and Space Force teams to verify payload requirements - Support other customer activities, mission integration, launch operations, program scheduling, and proposal efforts BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: - Bachelors degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering - 5+ years of professional industry experience with a focus on mechanical and/or structural engineering - 2+ years of technical program management experience PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: - Masters degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering or relevant discipline - Prior experience in all phases of the engineering life-cycle from conception to test and release - Excellent written and verbal communication skills - Experience interacting with and presenting to external customers (preferably U.S. Government) - Extensive technical knowledge of mechanical design, analysis, and testing of relevant aerospace systems - Experience leading requirement definition, managing development activity, and executing complicated qualification test campaigns - Knowledge of U.S. Government launch vehicle requirements - Knowledge of U.S. Government testing standards and specifications - Experience working with and/or managing cross-functional teams and external customers - Highly detail oriented, diligent, and hard working with excellent customer interface skills - Experience in requirements development, verification, and validation ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: - Active TS or TS/SCI clearance. Note that an active clearance may provide the opportunity for you to work on sensitive SpaceX missions. If so, you will be subject to pre-employment drug and random drug and alcohol testing - Must be willing to travel to other launch sites, test sites, and customer locations as necessary - up to 20% travel - Must be able to work extended hours and weekends as needed to support critical launch and project deliverables ITAR REQUIREMENTS: - To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
