Shift Manager – Energy from Waste Facility

Location: Maidstone
Salary: £50,000 - £75,000 (DOE)

Role Type: Perm, Full Time

Sector: Energy From Waste

Shift Pattern: 7am–7pm/7pm–7am

Key Responsibilities

*

Lead and manage operations technicians, I/O operators, and support technicians.

*

Operate the plant safely, efficiently, and within environmental standards.

*

Coordinate with maintenance and support teams to optimise performance.

*

Oversee plant shutdowns/startups and ensure compliance with Safe Systems of Work.

*

Serve as Safety Rules Outage Coordinator (SAP 2 level or working toward).

*

Conduct safety inspections and actively participate in H&S meetings.

*

Monitor, report, and improve operational KPIs.

*

Support recruitment, training, and competency development of the shift team.

*

Develop and maintain operational procedures and risk assessments.

*

Manage operational consumables and corrective action plans.

*

Lead technical investigations into plant trips and incidents.

*

Contribute to strategy development and emergency planning.

*

Interrogate and operate Distributed Control Systems (DCS).

*

Act as Incident Controller during emergencies and liaise with emergency services.

*

Ensure personal and team safety, champion a proactive safety culture.

*

Implement SHEQ policies, procedures, and risk assessments.

Experience & Qualifications

*

Proven supervisory experience in Energy from Waste, power generation, or large industrial process plant.

*

Minimum 5 years’ experience with rotating machinery, boilers, or similar systems.

*

Authorised to administer Safety Rules at SAP level 2 or actively working towards it.

*

Experience with operational risk assessments and procedure development.

*

Competency in using Microsoft Office, CMMS (e.g., Nisoft Eclipse, Gladis, ERP systems).

Desirable Skills

*

Excellent leadership and people management capabilities.

*

Strong conflict resolution and performance management experience.

*

High-level planning, organisation, and decision-making skills.

*

NEBOSH General Certificate (completed or working towards).

*

IOSH Managing Safely (completed).

*

HNC or equivalent in a technical or scientific discipline
