Job Description

The Classification Supervisory Consultant is responsible for classification as required by US Customs and Border Protection for entry of goods into the US on behalf of importers. This position will report to the Classification Services Manager and will have a team of direct reports.

Objective is to assist with the supervision of the team assigned to classify our clients’ products using a working knowledge and demonstrated ability to properly navigate and interpret the Harmonized Tariff Schedule. You must possess the ability to read, understand and apply the general rules of interpretation (GRI’s), section & chapter notes and have a good understanding of Customs' rulings, including Customs' ruling database. 


Core Responsibilities:

  • Clear and concise communications both internally and externally – written and verbal

  • Research of Customs and Other Government Agency regulations

  • Draft analysis and opinion letters

  • Manage multiple ongoing projects and project deadlines while keeping clients updated

  • Daily tracking of project time of self and team members

  • Contribute to departmental improvements

  • Work effectively both independently and as part of a team – collaboration, flexibility, adaptability

  • Take direction from Classification Services Manager

  • Oversee a team of direct reports

  • Contribute to administration of the team with hiring, evaluations, and coaching for improvement discussions

  • Ability to accomplish goals while working through others

  • Follow department and company processes, procedures and policies

  • Assist with creating team processes and procedures

  • Ability to speak to Classification Service offerings with clients and understand how the import process works



  • LCB strongly preferred

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications

  • Strong interpersonal skills, good written and verbal communication/presentation skills

  • Problem Solving/Critical thinking skills

  • Classification experience across multiple chapters in the tariff preferred

  • Project Management experience a preferred qualification

  • Prior team management experience

  • Preferred candidate will also have a knowledge of other facets of trade compliance such as: PGA requirements, Post Summary Correction filing, Reconciliation filing, Binding Ruling

  • Preferred candidate will also have experience with data analysis

  • Demonstrated customer service skills
