Implements IUPD training programs and initiatives, providing expert leadership,

coordination, and oversight of initial and continuing education for the Indiana

University Police Department, including all police and civilian personnel. When

required, coordinates training for other non-IUPD individuals involved in

public safety such as emergency management, physical security and access,

environmental health and safety, and others.

The training and education programs for which this senior position is

responsible reduces personal risk of harm to law enforcement and to other

individuals involved in public safety and security activities, reduces risk to

the institution, and contributes to the university s overall compliance


The Lieutenant of Public Safety Education assists the Director of Public Safety

Education in the management and supervision of the Indiana University Police

Academy, which graduates 40-50 police officers annually.


Bachelor s degree and five years of law enforcement experience, including t

years in a supervisory role OR High school diploma or GED and eight years of

law enforcement experience, including two years in a supervisory role.

Possess a valid driver s license with the ability to be insured by Indiana


Indiana Law Enforcement Academy certified.

Possess current and continued certification in university required courses such

as CPR, AED, Blood Borne Pathogens, and IDACS.

Possess current firearms qualification.

Possess current status as an ILETB Certified Instructor Training.

Ability to complete and maintain all required annual law enforcement training

and certifications as prescribed by Indiana State Law and the Indiana Law

Enforcement Training Board (ILETB). Demonstrated competency in the performance

of specialized duties wherein specialized training has been provided and

completed. Ability to communicate and perform duties effectively and in a

professional manner. Ability to understand and interpret instructions and

perform tasks efficiently. Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.

Basic knowledge of computers and word processing, email, and database software



Possess ILETB classification as Master Instructor.
