An exciting opportunity exists to join a dynamic technology and manufacturing business based near Royston, Hertfordshire.

Cheyney Design & Development Ltd., designs systems, modules and software for automatic in process and end of line x-ray inspection. These are incorporated into Sapphire Inspection System products and are also sold globally to major food, pharmaceutical and process equipment suppliers

Working for us, as a Mechatronics Technician, you will support the Special Projects team at Cheyney Design. This hands-on technical role is involved with the development, production, testing and support of prototype and special purpose x-ray inspection machines.

This exciting role offers a wide range of responsibilities in company that offers great variety and is enjoying aggressive growth.

Main job responsibilities and duties:

* Provide technical support to the team in the development of test systems and prototypes.

* Involvement in product trials, sourcing, procurement decisions, component testing, electronics testing, software functionality testing, safety testing.

* Write test reports and communicate findings.

* Assist in the transition from prototype to production machine by liaising with design, documentation and production colleagues.

* Assist with the implementation of quality control measures.

* Liaise with customers during project design phase and for onsite prototype tests.

* Assist in the planning and record keeping of ongoing projects.

* Assist customer service in their support of products where you have specialist knowledge.

Qualifications and Skills:

* Proven experience in a multi-skilled product development environment or similar (e.g. university laboratory).

* HNC / HND qualified or similar, preferably in an electrical or electronic discipline

* Electrical skills, PCBAs, wiring assemblies and soldering.

* Mechanical skills – assembly, repair, testing.

* Understanding of technical drawings – electrical and mechanical.

* CAD experience (preferably SolidWorks) optional.

* Structured, methodical individual with good problem-solving skills.

* Enthusiastic, flexible and keen approach to learn.

* The ability to work independently as well as with a variety of teams
