Job Description

Are you an individual whose passion lies in digital media? The Digital Communications Specialist will work to build, enhance, and monitor PNNLs digital footprint across several online channels. The Digital Communications Specialist works directly with the Digital and Media Communications Manager to develop and implement digital outreach plans with goals, objectives, and tactics for both day-to-day efforts and special campaigns. The Digital Communications Specialist leverages PNNLs digital properties to increase awareness of the mission-critical science conducted at the Laboratory and stimulate positive sharing and discussion of PNNL, its people, and their work.

Provides solutions to a wide-range of moderate to difficult problems with the Digital and Media Communications group

Develop and execute social media campaigns

-



Referencing various sources, conceptualize content ideas for social and digital media, write copy, and collaborate with creative team to create audio, photographic, video, and other content

-



Manage day-to-day postings on PNNL channels

-



Build and nurture online communities through engagement with key audiences, grow a following for those communities, and monitor and reply to inquiries received via social media (for example, reviews, comments, likes, and mentions)

-



Study and suggest standard hashtags for daily use and specialty hashtags for specific uses

-



Work with Digital and Media Communications on email campaigns using mail services such as HubSpot, MailChimp, and Constant Contact

-



Monitor news and social media mentions and leverage those mentions across digital channels

-



Assist with staging and posting content to the PNNL website, working with the Web Administrator to tag content and update pages

-



Ability to understand and move forward PNNLs mission through digital communications

-



Demonstrated experience using social media as a tool to achieve specific business goals

-



Demonstrated experience planning, creating, and curating content for digital media

-



Ability to condense information into creative, compelling content that resonates with key audiences

-



Knowledge of CMS platforms such as WordPress and Drupal

-



Ability to work independently and within cross-functional teams that may include writers, editors, designers, photographers, programmers, developers, internal clients, and project managers

-



Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

-



Basic knowledge of typography and design aesthetics and experience using a style guide

-



Basic competency with Adobe Creative Cloud

-



Effective at time management, assessing priorities, and project management

-



Ability and inclination to learn and implement new skills, concepts, and technology such as emerging social media platforms

-



Strong work ethic, excellent time management skills, and a high attention to detail

-



Ability to focus and work well under pressure during tight deadlines with humor, tact, and professionalism

-



Ability to accept feedback and critique with grace and professionalis



Minimum Qualifications



- Bachelors degree plus 3 years of experience or advanced degree



Preferred Qualifications



-



Degree focus in communications, marketing, public relations, business, or similar degree, plus three years of related experience; or an advanced degree

-



Experience in scientific or technical communications, particularly in a national laboratory or other complex research-based organization

-



Success setting up and managing online communities within the science and technology areas

-



Established contacts within the science and technology arena

-



Experience in digital advertising or promotions; knowledge of geographically based marketing tactics (for example, geofencing and IP address targeting)

-



Experience producing and editing video for social media

-



Excellent writing skills

-



Experience preparing and presenting written and verbal reports that clearly and quickly communicate operational status, progress toward goals, and key issues
