Department Description



UCSF Health brings clinical and research service capabilities into a unified management structure and single operating unit, achieving strategic, operational and financial alignment between the School of Medicine, Medical Group, and the Medical Center as well as provider affiliates. The Finance department at Childrens Enterprise serves as a center of expertise for a variety of Financial Planning and Budget (FP & B) and Decision Support Services (DSS) administrative business processes, reporting and selective analysis to increase transparency, create efficiency, implement standardization, and provide strategic value to Benioff Childrens Hospitals and support the Childrens business entities in critical financial deliverables.



Job Summary



Reporting to the Finance Director, Childrens Enterprise, the DSS Manager for the Childrens Enterprise is responsible for managing Benioff Childrens Hospitals budget, financial planning, financial performance management and labor productivity using EPSi, MyReports & Axiom.

The manager plays a critical role in evaluating data from EPSi, MyReports and PeopleSoft to ensure the production of high quality, accurate and timely financial data for our Finance, Strategy Department, Operational business partners and Sr. Leadership.

EPSi along with MyReports is the single source of critical financial data that provides Vice Presidents and Directors to evaluate overall and department financial performance including labor productivity, develop and create operating budgets, request capital equipment and monetize value improvements projects, update annual ten year plan process and provide overall stewardship for financial monitoring and reporting.

Receives assignments in the form of objectives and determines optimal deployment of resources to meet schedules and achieve goals. Reviews and recommends to Shared Services data changes and enhancements for budget, labor productivity, multi-year financial planning and capital requirements. Provides guidance to subordinates to achieve goals in accordance with established policies.

Erroneous decisions or failure to adhere to objectives results in additional costs and serious delays in overall schedules. Recognized leader and subject matter expert in one or more aspects of financial planning & budget.



Required Qualifications



Eight years experience in Decision Support, or Financial Management in the Healthcare field

Bachelors Degree in Finance, Accounting or related area and/or equivalent experience/training

Experience with hospital operating and capital budget concepts and systems, and familiarity/understanding of hospital general ledger, payroll and other financial data including healthcare reimbursement concepts

Experience developing and implementing reporting solutions and tools that facilitate volume, expense and utilization patterns of hospital operations. (e.g. advanced Excel, SQL Analysis Services, Tableau, Qlik)

Strong leadership skills to manage financial planning and budget professionals and the ability to cultivate a strong commitment to quality, teamwork, collaborative problem-solving, and achievement of objectives

Advanced written and verbal communications skills, with the ability to interpret and convey highly sophisticated technical and financial information in a clear, concise manner and to make cogent, presentations of analyses, reports and investigation results

Knowledge of and experience working with Healthcare specific Financial accounting software (e.g. Epic, EPSi, PeopleSoft or similar)

Team player with proven ability to interact well with all levels of management and staff; ability to successfully facilitate both large and small groups on a variety of topics at various levels within the organization

Demonstrated ability to work independently with little guidance using good analytical and political judgment in dealing with a wide variety of administrators, physicians and Directors in an academic health care institution

Professional approach to work including a strong sense of responsibility for assigned duties; demonstrated ability to handle and prioritize multiple assignments and overlapping deadlines

Flexible, have a positive attitude and a sense of humor is highly desirable

Preferred Qualifications



Masters Degree in Healthcare/Business Administration

Advanced organizational and project management skills and ability to lead a team, prioritize tasks and see projects through from inception to completion on scheduled

Advanced data management and mining skills including ability to develop and execute highly complex SQL queries and stored procedures to organize, transform and extract financial and for production of relevant, meaningful reports, statistics, analyses and forecasts

Work Environment

Posts flyers and posters in designated areas only; does not post on walls, doors or windows.

Knows where the Environment of Care Manual is kept in department; corrects or reports unsafe conditions to the appropriate departments.

Protects the physical environment and equipment from damage and theft.

The flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations is required.
