Mill Operator (2nd Shift 3 p.m. - 11:30 p.m. / 3rd Shift 10 p.m. - 6:30 a.m.)



This is a great opportunity for mechanically inclined and team oriented candidates with interest in working in a manufacturing setting.



This is not a temperature controlled environment. Employees are subject to seasonal weather conditions including heat or cold. Specifically the Oxide Mill area is contained and extreme heat temperatures exist. A safety protection suite is required to wear while working.



The 2nd shift position works Thursday through Monday with a weekend of Tuesday and Wednesday. The 3rd shift position works Monday through Friday with a weekend of Saturday and Sunday.



Attendance is an essential job requirement defined as having regular, consistent, reliable, punctual and predictable attendance including the ability to work regular hours and shifts, overtime before and after shifts and on weekends. Overtime is routinely expected.



Compensation:



This is a non-incentive position. You receive a base pay of $18.82/hour with a .30/hour shift differential for 2nd Shift or a .36/hour shift differential 3rd Shift. A Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) of .80/hour is added to your base salary. You receive regular 5% increases on your base pay after 3 months of work history, after 9 months, after 15 months, after 27 months, and after 39 months.



Primary Duties:



To maintain continuous operation of six oxide mills to ensure adequate production of oxide within quality parameters. The following information applies to production associate duties in the Oxide Mill area. This position initiates the production of essential material required in the assembly of batteries.



Ball Mill Operation



Produce oxide at a rate to achieve levels of production in other areas of the plant in order to meet production goals daily



Perform set up of machine (including calibration and clean up) to exact specifications and ensure material is loaded properly

Use a forklift in order to move the 1 ton block of lead to the machine area

Continue to operate the equipment so the cylinders go into silos that become pellets that are processed in the drum where the pellets become a ball and under the precise amount of pressure then become lead oxide

The oxide is expelled into a bag house as powder then put into storage tanks

As a key part of the production process these steps are repeated as necessary



Barton Pot Mill Operation



Operate a crane that lowers a 1 ton block of lead into a melting pot designed to reduce the lead into a liquid to be inserted into the reaction pot

The liquid in the reaction pot is agitated by paddles to increase air flow to bring product within specifications

Periodic analysis done to control the reaction by manipulating lead feed and air rate (it is important to control the reaction so the oxide meets the requirements and is produced at the specified rates)

During the reaction process it is required to check motor loads, temperatures, and color and readjust lead flow every 15 minutes

Check Barton Pot lead temperatures and adjust cooling every 15 minutes

Hourly take oxide samples and measure for proper reaction conditions

Vacuum clean tank and sweep floor to rid of all debris

As a key part of the production process these steps are repeated as necessary



General Duties to to All Oxide Mills



Adhere to all safety standards including the wearing of Personal Protective Equipment including a full exposure suit, respirator, safety glasses, hearing protection, and gloves

Extended training period as necessary for the performance of all related tasks

Able to work independently as the sole operator of equipment performing production tasks in an isolated environment

Working under extreme heat conditions while operating equipment

Conduct apparent density and free lead checks on output regularly

Greases and oils machine and may make minor repairs to equipment

Practices preventive maintenance and exercises care in operating machines

Adhere to safety practices reducing exposure and displaying caution when working with lead and oxide

Weekend work requires a productive individual that maintains production needs to meet business goals

Must be able to work all shifts up to 12 hours as overtime may be required due to production demands or staffing shortages

Performs other duties as directed by supervisor



Qualifications



High School diploma or Equivalency (GED) required



Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.



Must be a self-starter capable of maintaining production during the weekend shifts independent of supervision



Machine troubleshooting experience preferred



General mechanical skills; able to perform minor repairs as needed



Agile enough to climb ladders or maneuver around equipment when necessary



Warehouse or manufacturing experience preferred



Forklift or material handling experience preferred



Experience working with conveyors is preferred



Basic computer skills required



Respect for safety policies; thorough understanding and complete compliance in order to avoid incident



Ability to read and understand all production specifications required to perform daily tasks



Ability to neatly and accurately record required data



Successful Production Associates must be willing to learn new things and work in an integral team environment to get the product out in a safe and timely manner while meeting quality standards.
