Description

Charting the Past, Navigating the Future: Teacher of History - Southampton

Are you a passionate History teacher inspired by the rich maritime heritage of Southampton and eager to explore its global connections? Our Outstanding mixed secondary school in this historically significant port city is seeking an enthusiastic and engaging Teacher of History to join our dynamic department from September 2025. This is an exceptional opportunity to bring local and global histories to life for young learners.

We are looking for an educator who can immerse students across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5 in the fascinating stories of exploration, trade, migration, and conflict that have shaped Southampton and its impact on the world. You will leverage the city's unique position as a gateway to the world – from the departure of the Titanic to its pivotal role in both World Wars – to spark curiosity and deepen understanding. Students will develop critical thinking skills by analysing primary sources, debating historical interpretations, and understanding the complex interplay between local narratives and wider global events. If you're committed to making history relevant and tangible through its local context, we encourage your application.

We offer:

* A supportive and well-resourced History department that actively integrates local and maritime history into its curriculum.

* Opportunities for immersive learning experiences, including visits to the SeaCity Museum, Tudor House and Garden, and other local historical sites.

* A collaborative environment that encourages interdisciplinary projects, linking history with geography, economics, and literature.

* Exceptional professional development, with a focus on inquiry-based learning and leveraging digital archives related to Southampton's past.

* A school community that thrives on its diverse heritage and strong links to the city's historical institutions.
