Job Description This position requires development and maintenance of software for new and current product lines in a team environment, including design, specification, coding, and unit test. Products range from embedded handheld sensing devices to wired and wireless sensors, to large integrated and networked X-Ray screening systems dispersed across the globe. These products are critical to national security and public safety and require high availability, scalability and must meet strict latency and throughput requirements. Duties & Responsibilities The position requires a self-motivated software engineer with experience in development of applications used to aggregate, store and report various sensor information within a Linux and Windows environment. Strong problem solving skills, adaptability, ownership, and proactive execution of tasks are key. Planning and execution of work within budget and schedule is essential. Estimating software engineering tasks for use in basis-of-estimates may be required. The ability to work within a team is an essential part of this position as well as the ability to effectively communicate ideas in written and verbal form. Ability to effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders is a must. The specific software engineering skills required to perform this role will change as technology evolves and the employee must track and adapt to new technologies. What Youll Do: - Hands-on contributor designing, implementing and integrating Java/C#/C++ libraries and applications on Linux and Windows based platforms (embedded and otherwise) - Work in team based environment to develop, integrate and validate small to large distributed software systems - Apply best practice cybersecurity measures to software development activities according to internal and customer policy - Delivering projects on-time, within functional and quality specifications, all the while communicating clearly with stakeholders - Design, implement, test, maintain and enhance features for new and released products - Work with technical leads, managers and team members to estimate effort and to clarify, negotiate and document scope and design - Help maintain unit test coverage, code documentation, improve software structure and supportability - Stay in tune with software and industry technology trends to ensure our products stay best of class for present and future - Communicate technical concepts to customers and internal audiences. The Individual Education/Training: BA/BS or advanced degree in Computer Science or equivalent Experience: 3-5+ years of direct and demonstrable Software Engineering experience Knowledge/Skills: - Knowledge of professional software engineering practices for the full software development lifecycle, coding standards, code reviews, source management strategy, build process and testing - Ability to quickly learn complex software, system and technology - Proven track record of taking ownership and successfully delivering results - Hands-on experience working on distributed systems with robust analytical and troubleshooting skills - Experience working with Linux (CentOS/RedHat/Ubuntu) and Windows 10 environments - Expert level designing and programming applications/libraries in Java - Experience designing and programming in C#, C++ and Python - High Level of understanding working with networks to include communications protocols and encryption - Scripting: BASH, CSH, SH - Experience developing software on Intel x86, Freescale/ARM using cross compilation toolchains - Experience with MongoDB, RabbitMQ and Docker containers - Experience working with virtual environments such as VMWare, VirtualBox and KVM - Experience with XML, JSON, SSL and HTTPS certificates - Experience using the Eclipse IDE and others such as Visual Studio and PyCharm - Future projects/programs may require Sensitive Security Information (SSI) access and vetting via the TSA and/or the ability to acquire a DoD secret clearance. Applicant must be capable and willing to successfully pass a federal background investigation Additional skills that are a plus: - Experience doing embedded software development - Wireless systems integration experience (802.11 or custom radios) - Front-end web development experience using HTML, Java, JSON, CSS, JS, JSF, AngularJS, ReactJS, jQuery - Experience developing Graphical User Interface (GUI) applications, , QT - Experience with Code signing - Experience using web servers such as Tomcat or other J2EE servers - Distributed database development experience (SQLite, PostgreSQL, MySQL, MS SQL Server) to include redundancy/fail over design and implementation - Experience with Microsoft Azure and/or Amazon Web Services - Leveraging and contributing to Open Source projects - General IT/networking/system administrative experience Supervises: This is not a supervisory role. Physical/Mental Requirements: - Ability to solve complex practical problems - Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form - Ability to work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines - Individual may be required to sit, stand, walk regularly and occasionally lift 0-25 pounds - Ability to work on a computer for extended periods. - Ability to participate in a team development environment. - Good written and oral communication skills.
