Description

This role is accountable for blade integrity for the wind turbine assets by providing blade integrity, inspection and repair expertise. Areas of impact will include inspection programs and techniques, repair design, planning and strategy, standard development. The incumbent will have responsibility for ensuring blade inspection data from the Asset Integrity Program is accurately interpreted and acted upon to support the safe and efficient operation of wind facilities.



Responsibilities:



Lead wind fleet blade integrity program by reviewing and dispositioning blade history and damage observations, issue repair vs. monitor and inspection frequency and scope recommendations



Identify and validate blade reliability and integrity opportunities such as leading edge protection system and lightning protection system improvements



Participate in and support blade RCAs affecting the wind turbine fleet Involved in verifying technical competencies and qualifying blade inspection and repair vendors; on occasion, perform blade repair QA/QC oversight



Participate in blade repair procedure and specification review



Engage with original equipment manufacturers, service providers, other Owner-Operators and consultants to keep abreast of leading industry trends that Power Operations could employ to improve blade reliability



Remain current with the power generation industry on blade data analysis and inspection techniques to enhance reliability performance



Lead on-site inspection training to support the development of in-house blade inspection capabilities



Provide project management support by planning, implementing and validating wind turbine performance improvements



Qualifications



Technical degree with with minimum 7 years of wind industry or related composites experience



Detailed knowledge of wind turbines blade repair standards and methods



Demonstrated blade internal and external inspection skills.



Understanding of advanced inspection technologies considered a plus



Demonstrated problem solving, decision making, communication and interpersonal skills



Highly motivated and able to work and produce results independently with minimal oversight



Strong project management, planning, and organizational skills



Working Conditions



Office environment with up to 40% travel to field locations, training and industry conferences Environment is fast paced and deliverables based with competing deadlines to support aggressive operating performance and cost goals



Wind turbine site environment to monitor and observe work performed.



Applicant must be able to climb vertical stationary ladders inside wind turbine towers to heights greater than 250 feet and enter blade confined spaces



Occasionally, employee may be required to work in adverse outdoor weather conditions in temperatures greater than 35C and lower than -20C
