Lead Design Engineer - South Norfolk - Attractive Salary

A leading Engineering Manufacturing business based 15 miles west of Norwich, are looking to hire an experienced and highly proficient Lead Design Engineer for the team. Following a period of significant success and recent investment, the business are looking to bolster the team for the next phase of their growth plans.

Reporting directly into Senior Management, the Lead Design Engineer will not only manage a small team of talented Design Engineers, but manage the design and development of highly regulated products - developing through the entire design lifecycle, from initial conception, design and development, through to testing, prototyping and finally manufacture.

Responsibilities of the Lead Design Engineer will include:

Define, plan, monitor and manage the outputs of the Design Engineering team.
Lead direct reports with the design and development of products, including the checking of designs & drawings, sign off and accurate BOM output.
Manage and present engineering reviews on behalf of the team.
Support with continuous improvement, including setting up systems, processes and quality of output.
Design activities of structural components, including metal, plastics and composite using SolidWorks.
Perform engineering hand calculations (including stress and stiffness) to substantiate the design of the product.
Work with the Stress team to analyse and resolve structural performance concerns in order to achieve weight and durability targets.
Drive the development and certification of all products, including formulating DVP's in collaboration with the Test & Certification function.
Day to day supervision of direct reports, including regular 1-2-1 meetings, team meetings, timesheet authorisation, holiday approval, sickness/absence meetings, goal and objective setting, personal development plans & appraisal reviews.
Develop relationships with key suppliers to deliver solutions, ensuring effective Design for Manufacture.
Liaise with Production to ensure effective Design for Assembly.
Manage multiple projects in parallel.
Ensure company procedures are followed, including the NPI and NPD process.
Continually challenge manufacturing processes and materials to ensure innovation & continuous improvement is achieved.

In order for your application to the Lead Design Engineer role to be considered, you'll need the following skills, experience and qualifications:

Mechanical Engineering degree, or similar suited to the above requirements.
Experience in leading, managing and/or supervising a team of Design Engineers.
Exceptional planning, organising and prioritising skills.
Experience working within the Aviation, Automotive or other highly regulated industrial manufacturing sector.
Ability to carry out engineering hand calculations.
Proven 3D CAD capability and experience, preferably in CATIA and SolidWorks
