Job Description

Job Title: Asbestos Laboratory Supervisor

Job Type: Permanent

Hours: 40 per week

Job Location: Wolverhampton

Remuneration: As Laboratory Supervisor, you’ll receive a salary of between £24,000 and £26,120, depending on experience, plus you’ll benefit from a 10% performance bonus private health cover after 1 years’ service, a contributory pension scheme and life cover.

As Laboratory Supervisor you’ll be responsible for production but also to provide additional organisational support to the Operations Manager, assist with the training of new staff and provide technical support to the Quality department as required.

Key Accountabilities;

* Accurate interpretation of job instructions including any scope of works or contract review; subsequent accurate identification of asbestos fibres including clear recording of same.

* Timely processing of samples and production of final report as per the recognised “points” system.

* To work with the Operations Manager to ensure all efficiency KPIs are met/exceeded within the laboratory team including maintaining staffing levels appropriate to current workload.

* Liaise with operations team to ensure sample priorities are in-line with turnaround times for frameworks, contracts and other agreements with particular reference to void housing and emergency work.

* Communicate with external and internal customers regarding analysis orders, sample delivery and reporting.

* Organise DOP testing / servicing of H-type vacuum cleaners and fume cabinets when required.


To be successful in this role, you’ll need minimum 3 years’ experience in an asbestos bulk laboratory, as well as a P401 Certificate.

In addition to the above you’ll also need to demonstrate the following;

* Good communication

* Comprehensive knowledge of asbestos analytical PLM technique.

* Understanding of the risks associated with ACMs.

* Inquisitive and diligent nature, appreciation of the importance of the job and understanding of the QC system requirements.

* Basic IT skills.

The following attributes would be desirable, but not essential;

* Soil analysis skills

* Enhanced knowledge of buildings and location of asbestos within them

* Ability to use TEAMS

* Health and safety skills

* Auditing skills

* Fibre counting

* Experience in conducting other related asbestos work such as fibre counting
