Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for a COMMERCIAL MANAGER to join our Plant & Fleet business (Strategic Assets ) unit to work in Derby. This role is a mix of remote and in-office working.

Role Purpose:

A Commercial Manager within Plant and Fleet Services is responsible for the financial and commercial management of the business area and associated projects under their control, from inception to tendering, asset finance/funding modelling, negotiating and agreeing contracts, commercial delivery through to potential asset disposal. Operational understanding and experience of plant and service operations and asset financing is strongly desirable including working knowledge of the various funding mechanisms for large plant assets.

What you'll be doing

You will have the following accountabilities:

* Business and Customer Awareness

* An ability to see bigger picture.

* Willing to take initiative to respond to customer requirements.

* Understands how economic factors affects the construction industry in particular funding mechanisms within a plant environment.

* Provides commercial input to Value Engineering reviews for different forms of construction.

* Manages the feedback of commercial data to Planning and Estimating.

* Maximises digital opportunities.

* To support, review and prepare tender pricing strategies and cost models.

* To support the finance team in establishing asset financing options and finance models.

* To co-ordinate the commercial team to ensure all issues are identified and actioned timeously.

* Manage the preparation of the monthly CVR and associated commercial reports.

* To be able to report and explain the commercial progress to senior staff.

* To manage the feedback of commercial data to Planning, Estimating, Marketing and Sales.

* Manages commercial aspects with Customers and stakeholders.

* Establish any Customer supply chain requirements & advise on alternative forms of contract & procurement arrangements.

* Formulation of management plans for resource procurement.

* Awareness of disputes resolution including options, structure as well as knowledge of the SCL Protocol.

* Application of legislation and ability to liaise with legal experts.

* Preparation of estimates & tender submissions including the interpretation of specifications & preambles.

* Representation of the financial and contractual interests to your employer and/or Customer in review meetings or the like.

* Co-ordination of buying, accounts, production control/planning, supply chain management & procurement techniques, estimating & surveying functions

* Management and reporting of Commercial Risk and Opportunity.

* Management of disallowed cost.

* BSc or MSc in Quantity Surveying or experience equivalent
