Individually and together, our employees are dedicated to satisfying the mission of our organization which is an unwavering commitment to excellence as we care for the sick and injured; educate physicians, nurses and other health care providers; and improve access to care in the communities we serve, regardless of a patients ability to pay for health care.The Mobile Phlebotomist is responsible for drawing patients blood at locations other than a Patient Service Center or hospital.JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:* Interprets verbal and written physician orders.* Obtains blood specimens from patients using appropriate blood collection equipment (needles, lancets, etc.) and follows safe practices according to the Laboratory Specimen Collection Manual and Phlebotomy Procedure Manual in a timely manner.* Performs outpatient EKGs as needed.* Works respectfully with the mobile scheduler, making sure proper communication is relayed daily. Keep patients informed of any delays.* Responsible for handling and processing laboratory specimens according to Accession Procedure Manual including operation of a centrifuge and proper specimen transfer and storage.* Demonstrates efficient time utilization in the patient home, at home base, and in preparation for and travel to and from the visit.* Perform skills independently according to department procedures. Researches and/or obtains needed information prior to the patient visit.* Assume personal responsibility to keep informed of current communications and trends within the department.PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:Ability to operate a motor vehicle to travel to any location within the St. Lukes University Health Network service area to collect specimens. In order to satisfy the physical requirements in a typical workday, employee must have the ability to sit for 0- 2 hours. Manual dexterity is required in order to perform the essential functions of a phlebotomist.Manual dexterity and ability to use fingers/hands for repetitive action would include frequent fingering, continuous handling, palpating veins, rare grasping and occasional twisting/turning. Use of upper extremities for occasional lifting and frequent carrying of objects weighing up to ten pounds. Frequent stooping and bending. Ability to restraining, stabilizing and holding uncooperative outpatients. Sensory requirements include the ability for touching, hearing normal conversation, and seeing with general vision.EDUCATION:High School graduate or equivalent required. Associates degree preferred. Graduate from an accredited phlebotomy school with a minimum of 100 successful draws.TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:Two years phlebotomy experience required. Three to five years of phlebotomy experience preferred. Basic computers skill required. Requires independent judgment in the performance of the assigned duties. Strong customer service focus. Bi-lingual English/Spanish or Arabic preferred.Please complete your application using your full legal name and current home address.
