Senior Ecologist / Experienced Bat Ecologist - Farnham, Surrey

Salary - £26,000 to £30,000

The Company

Our client is an independent ecological consultancy working for a wide range of clients including; residential and commercial developers, planning consultants, local authorities, architects, landscape architects, educational facilities, environmental consultancies and private individuals.

They are a highly professional team providing high quality surveys, reports and mitigation. Accurate survey work is key to your project, so they will ensure the appropriate level of survey effort and mitigation is applied to each situation so no money or time is wasted.

The Role

We are looking for a confident and highly experienced Senior Ecologist / Bat Ecologist to join our clients' team of consultants.

The successful candidate(s) must share our passion for ecology and conservation, be enthusiastic, self-motivated and reliable, confident working independently and inspiring as part of the team.

You should have at least 3-4 years professional consultancy experience, have been a named ecologist on bat licences and hold at least a Class 2 personal bat licence.

Role Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will

- Prepare, manage and execute ecological surveys for all species and mitigation projects.
- Produce high quality ecological survey reports and review work for other members of the team.
- Undertake protected species survey work including out of hours survey work.
- Be an experienced project manager, confident in liaising with clients and project stakeholders.
- Lead and deliver individual projects from start to finish.
- Work in collaboration with the team to design ecological mitigation and enhancement schemes to be integrated into client proposals.
- Develop the in-house bat capability of the team.
- Undertake site work under licence to facilitate the implementation of the recommended mitigation and compensation.
- Business management duties will include writing fee proposals and tenders, financial management, marketing and general office management.
- Line management of junior members of staff and sub-contractors, if and when appropriate.

Essential Skills & Requirements:

Essential

- BSc and MSc in ecology or related subject.
- Minimum of 3-4 years' experience in ecology within a consultancy environment.
- Appropriate protected species licences (Bats, GCN, Dormice, Reptiles).
- Able to demonstrate an excellent understanding of the consultants role and have proven commercial competency.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- An excellent understanding of the planning process and construction industry.
- Appropriate level of CIEEM membership.
- Proven success of working in a busy team and managing team logistics.
- Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Ability to undertake all of the above whilst maintaining a sense of humour and positive team spirit.
- Applicants will need to hold a UK driving licence, have their own vehicle and must be prepared to travel to different sites and to work ecology survey hours.

Desirable

- Named ecologist on protected species licences.
- Registered consultant for BLICL.
- A valid CSCS card.
- GIS skills.
- Practical ecological mitigation skills.
- Marketing and tendering experience.
