Key Responsibilities

- Designing electrical substations of 13kV Distribution to 500 kV Transmission

- Developing one-line diagrams, general arrangements and sections for major substation equipment, bus work, HV structures, associated hardware, control building layouts, grounding, relaying, controls and metering

- Assist in the management of electrical engineering contractors assigned to work on the design of renewable energy facilities, including definition of requirements and specifications, review of engineering drawings and RFI management.

- Provide engineering consulting support to project managers in the preliminary design and engineering of collection system and substations.

- Provide engineering consulting support to other areas of the organization, including O & M and Marketing

- Oversee the electrical tests performed by Construction Team on site prior to and during the commissioning of the renewable energy facilities. Support the QA/QC team on site.

- Provide electrical technical interface to support Procurement. Oversee the factory testing of the major electrical equipment to be installed at the renewable energy facilities.

- Evaluate electrical equipment and material proposals; prepare bid tab evaluations for electrical equipment.

- Be on-site for back feed and first energization to grid and start up.

- Review and comment on the scope of work on electrical contracts.

- Assist with receiving and inspecting of the major pieces of electrical equipment.

- Designing station grounding grids, lightning protection, low voltage AC & DC systems and lighting layouts

- Perform Physical Electrical, Protection and Control, SCADA Systems, Station Communications and Station Automation design on medium to large scale utility substation engineering projects

- Preparing and reviewing engineering documents, calculations, and specifications

- Preparing and reviewing project scope(s), proposals, estimates, schedules, and budgets

- Assigning tasks and providing technical assistance to assigned personnel, as required

- Reviewing, checking and approving work output of assigned personnel, as required

- Providing project engineering and electrical discipline leadership, including interdisciplinary coordination and scheduling

- Monitoring budget and schedule for electrical scope of work and identifying scope and schedule changes in accordance with the Change Control Process

- Traveling and visiting client sites from project definition through construction

- Leading projects from conception through construction and commissioning, including mentoring junior engineers and designers

Skills / Qualifications

- Electrical Engineering Degree from a recognized university along with a Professional Engineering Designation or the ability to register as a Professional Engineer

- 4-10 years of electrical engineering experience in a Transmission and Distribution Utility or EPC organization designing substations

- Experience in both substation layout and Protection and control design

Familiarity with substation design standards including - ANSI/IEEE/NEMA/NESC

- Proven field experience with outage planning, construction staging, and commissioning is considered an asset

- Familiarity with applicable codes, standards and regulations used in North American

- Highly developed communication skills, both written and verbal

- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work with clients and staff in a team environment

- Must be able to work independently or with minimal supervision and still meet commitment deadlines

- Good organizational skills, writing skills, presentation and communication skills

- Willing to travel up to 25%

Authorization to work lawfully in the US without sponsorship from Wood is required
