Description

Under the supervision of the Operations Function Coordinator the Major

Gifts Associate supports a variety of gift officers and senior

leadership in the unit. The position will serve as part of a

development and engagement shared support team. The successful

applicant will be a creative and inspiring writer who is also a

critical thinker, with the ability to synthesize information to

develop compelling fundraising materials. The Major Gifts Associate

will work collaboratively with the gift officers in the unit to

initiate and assist with activities/tasks required to develop and

implement cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship practices.

Further the MGA will collaborate closely with program assistants and

others in Alumni Affairs & Development in the completion of tasks to

facilitate prospect activity.

The MGA will draft correspondence for use by the President, Provost,

Deans, senior administrators, and Trustees for a variety of purposes

to include, but not limited to, letters and/or e-mails acknowledging

gifts and commitments, notes of congratulations, and letters and/or

e-mails of invitations.

In partnership with gift officers and senior leadership, the MGA will

develop visit follow up letters, documents that seek financial

support, briefings, talking points, and other supporting materials to

be utilized by the President, Provost, Vice Presidents, Deans,

Faculty, Trustees and key alumni volunteers as needed. Research and

gather information as necessary to ensure accuracy of information.

Also in partnership with gift officers and senior leadership, prepare

nomination forms to recognize and advance Cornell involvement,

including University Council, advisory councils, Presidents Council

of Cornell Women, other organized volunteer leadership activities, as

well as awards and honors.

The MGA may also assist gift officers, senior leadership, and the

stewardship officer in developing plans for and executing stewardship

activities for any prospect whose lifetime philanthropy to Cornell is

$100K or more.

When feasible and appropriate, coordinate with Events Management staff

and others within the division to ensure proper support from the

earliest planning stages to final wrap-up.

Occasional Travel is expected. The MGA must develop and maintain

in-depth knowledge of university priorities.

Required Qualifications

Bachelors degree or equivalent. Must have 2 to 3 years of experience

or equivalent. Must have strong interpersonal skills and effective

communication skills, both written and oral. Strong writing skills,

especially persuasive writing.

Ability to work with individuals from across the university, as well

as with key alumni and volunteers and executive staff. Demonstrated

ability to work independently with little supervision. Must be able to

exercise strong judgment, and conduct oneself in a professional and

ethical manner. Must be able to work with highly sensitive and

confidential information. Must be extremely organized and

detail-oriented. Must have demonstrated the ability to use computer

software applications, databases, networked informational systems, and

the Internet.

Preferred Qualifications

Able to do background and informational research, analyze and report

findings for use by Major Gift Officers and members of management.
