The vision of LinkedIn s Performance Engineering organization is to make

every member interaction feel instantaneous while promoting a culture of

efficiency. We do this by instrumenting every member interaction, building

robust data pipelines and providing visibility to performance and cost data;

and then analyzing the data to optimize the speed and efficiency of

LinkedIn s stack.

As a leader in Performance Engineering you will influence and assist

engineering teams across LinkedIn in the development of high performance and

scalable systems, while identifying and pursuing performance optimizations in

existing products and infrastructure.


* Build and lead a team of engineers that is tasked with ensuring site-wide

speed and efficiency by:

o monitoring the performance experienced by users of LinkedIn s website and


o detecting and root causing site performance regressions

o optimizing the performance of LinkedIn applications and services

o identifying opportunities for improving systems resource utilization and

efficiency through the design and development of instrumentation infrastructure

and performance analysis tools, or through performance experimentation and data


* Help craft a long term vision and strategy for building a culture of

performance at LinkedIn

* Work across Engineering to build relationships with other teams and use their

feedback and understand their goals to build and prioritize a roadmap for the


* Own the design, development, testing, deployment, and craftsmanship of the

team s infrastructure and systems capable of handling massive amounts of

requests with high reliability and scalability

* Leverage your deep and broad technical expertise to mentor engineers and

provide leadership on resolving complex technology issues

Basic Qualifications:

* BS in Computer Science or related field with 5+ years of relevant engineering

work experience and 2+ years of hands-on technical management experience

* 5+ years coding in one of the following languages: Python, C++, Java

Preferred Qualifications:

* MS or Ph.D. in Computer Science or related technical discipline

* Experience in performance or capacity engineering

* Experience developing and utilizing applications/tools used for performance

analysis or capacity planning

* Experience in the design and development of performant, highly available,

scalable web applications

* Understanding of common performance patterns and anti-patterns in distributed


* Successful track record of managing small teams of engineers to deliver

multiple projects on time and with quality

* Active involvement in the creation and execution of technical strategies and


* Hire and retain world-class engineers by providing career growth, mentoring,

and high impact projects, while taking intelligent risks to improve the way

work is done
