On July 10, 2012, Intel spent US$4.1 billion to acquire a 15% stake in Dutch chip equipment manufacturer Asim. It also invested US$1 billion to support Asim’s accelerated development of costly chip manufacturing technology. First, it will acquire a 10% stake in Asim Corporation for US$2.1 billion. After shareholder approval, it will acquire a 5% stake for US$1 billion. The bet amount will be the development of 450mm machines and EUV R&D and manufacturing of 10nm technology as the two main axes.
